Indian Hand Carved Wooden textile blocks were traditionally used to print on textiles fabric using natural dyes derived from plants, and other organic sources. But hand block printing techniques of printing are endless & forever. You can also use these wooden stamps for stamping or printing on fabrics, curtains, cushion covers, wallpaper, scrap booking etc.
Wooden blocks are carved out from various Indian woods, including teak wood but a mainly made it with brown hard Indian sheesham wood (Indian Rose wood). These stamps are carved by skilled craftsmen. Indian wooden stamps are carved by skilled artisans. The newly carved blocks must be soaked in mustard oil for 10-15 days to soften the grains in the timbers or colors.
Block Printing process is an ancient & traditional Indian art of printing, especially on fabrics & textiles, as far back as the 12th century. Now this handcraft art work will soon be lost with the introducing of modern printing techniques like automated web presses and screen printing.
