How is this fabric sold — by the yard or as a fixed cut?

All fabric in this category is sold by the yard. If you order more than one yard, you'll typically receive a continuous length so you can cut around your pattern pieces without piecing. For large projects, buy a little extra to allow for pattern matching and pre-wash shrinkage.

What is the fabric made of and where is it printed?

The Indian Cotton Fabrics range is 100% cotton, hand block-printed in Jaipur, India. The marble design is built up by hand using carved wooden blocks, which is why the veining and colour depth shift subtly across the cloth — that variation is part of the craft, not a defect.

What can I sew with this marble print cotton?

It's a versatile mid-weight cotton suited to dresses, kaftans, kimono robes, blouses, wide-leg trousers, children's clothing, cushion covers, quilt backs, table linen and light curtains. It takes a needle well on a domestic sewing machine and presses cleanly for pattern matching.

How should I care for hand block-printed cotton before sewing?

We recommend a cold gentle wash separately before you cut, as hand-printed cottons can release a little surplus colour on the first wash and cotton naturally shrinks slightly. After that, wash cool with like colours, dry in shade to protect the print, and iron on the reverse while slightly damp.
